Cultural Heritage, a base for Nations Solidarity

Ali Jannati: On the  occasion of 70th anniversary of the establishment of UNESCO, it is necessary to put emphasis on the importance of Cultural elements in sustainable development. From this point of view, Cultural heritage has certain role in solidarity among nations.

Let us remember seventy years ago , after the Second World War, when the constitution of UNESCO was approved.

In fact, after too much destruction and tens of millions human casualties, the conscience of reformers and thinkers   shocked to see such a brutality.  The primary goal  of the establishment of UNESCO was to remove the obstacles of fantasy and separation through education ,Culture and Science, to familiarize nations to the life style  of  different cultures, to strengthen the sense of belonging to each other and finally to provide an appropriate base for sustainable peace.

Human society came to the conclusion that merely  single Political and economic relation cannot be a base for lasting and sustainable peace, as conditions for lasting peace should be along with theoretical and moral solidarity among human societies. This is a key factor in the UNESCO charter.

One of the valuable achievements of this view is introduction to the concept of world heritage.

Although world heritage refers to a certain group of people, but  It is belongs to all the humanity.

In another words, world heritage is more valuable entity than a concept confined to a certain range of geographical or political borders.

In our world, we do not have such things like pure culture, pure civilization, pure language or pure thought. All the cultures , civilizations and broad-human heritage are indebted to each other. They influenced each other.

Historically speaking , civilizations and cultures have been practically in dialogue with each other. What we have as the common human heritage is the outcome of such a historical dialogue. To remove the  misunderstanding of distance and conflict between human societies, we should educate our young generations , that human civilization is a collection of moral and material achievements of all human beings. None of which have been able to survive without each other.

The result of this attention was adoption and codification of International provisions such of UNESCO 1972 convention regarding UNESCO Intangible heritage.

Intangible heritage of nations is the Social values , traditions , customs , methods, Spiritual  and  aesthetic beliefs, artistic  expression and other aspects of human functions which  resulted in better understanding  of nations ‘  lifestyle as well as perception and recognition of them.

On the base of such a convention , The Republic of Armenia has been registered a considerable historical heritage as well as many Armenia ‘s customs and national traditions in the UNESCO intangible  list
